#ComingHome

SSAFF explores #ComingHome!

The transition from one part of the world to another is filled with anticipation, conflict and inherent desire and an incessant quest to find a place to call “Home.”

What brings people into this very enclosed space — people with such different histories and experiences — all of that creates endless possibilities to connect on a deep level with one another. The question “Where is Home?” or “What does Coming Home mean to you?” gets to the core of human experience and our inherent deep desire to have a sense of belonging.

#ComingHome campaign explores the richness of human experience and what each one of us associate “home” with. It is meant to stir up images, sounds, and smells to share with others — all in the spirit of curiosity and wonder to connect with one another on a deeper emotional level.

“It is the sound of my mother’s bangles as they tinkled and danced up and down her arm when she made rotis while Rajesh Khana songs played on the radio in the background.”  She said when I asked her randomly.

Others say it is “back home” — meaning, back in the host city they were born in even though they lived in the US now or “home is where my parents live” and some don’t associate home with any physical space whatsoever — the richness and multifariousness expression of the responses is what inspired us to make this our theme for SSAFF 2015.

This search however is elusive yet relentless.

After all, isn’t our sense of belonging intricately tied to our individual identities?
