Do I need to live in the US to be eligible? What if I live abroad?
- Yes, only filmmakers of South Asian heritage living in the US and with a US bank account are eligible to receive grant awards
- If you live abroad but have a filmmaking partner living within the US, you are eligible to apply
Do I need to be of South Asian heritage to apply?
Yes, individuals from or with heritage in following countries are eligible to apply
- Afghanistan
- Bangladesh
- Bhutan
- India
- Maldives
- Nepal
- Pakistan
- Tibet
- Sri Lanka
How long should my script be?
- For Short Film and LGBTQ+ Film: 5-20 pages
- For documentary treatment: preferably for a 60 minute film
What date do I need to submit my script by?
- Regular Deadline: Saturday, August 21st, 2021
- Late deadline: September 25th, 2021
What is the timeline for awards?
- September 25th, 2021: final submission deadline
- October 1st, 2021: finalists are notified
- Finalists pitch their script to a panel of judges during a live event (dates TBD)
- October 24th, 2021: Three awardees will be selected and announced
How many scripts will be awarded funds?
Three scripts will be funded, one in each of the following categories:
- Short Film
- Documentary
- LGBTQ+ film
If I am selected, will I receive any mentorship or additional support?
Yes! Tasveer will offer the following resources to grantees:
- Mentorship – 25 hours of Tasveer staff time, dedicated to helping you bring your project to life
- Connections in the film industry (with actors, other funders, equipment sources, when applicable and available)
- Distribution advice
- Premiere for their film in our 2022 film festival
What if I am selected, but need additional funding beyond $5,000?
- Tasveer is unable to provide funding beyond the $5,000 award
- However we are happy to provide advice and resources for seeking additional funding sources during scheduled mentoring sessions
If I am selected, when should my film be completed?
- We anticipate this general timeline for Short Film and LGBTQ Film categories:
- Awards made: October 2021
- Pre-production and mentoring: Nov 2021 – Feb 2022
- Production: Mar – Jun 2022
- Post-production and distribution: July – Oct 2022
- Premiere at Tasveer Festival: October 2022
- For Documentaries, please communicate your estimated timeline in your application
