Awaken Eyes

Awaken Eyes is a story about a poor newly wed couple who have a hard time consummating their marriage as they share a room with the sick mother.  Unable to resist the temptation they finally make love, remaining aloof to their mother’s presence.

About the Director – Binod Paudel
Binod Paudel has a Bachelor degree in Film Acting from College of Film Studies, Kathmandu and received training in video editing as well as theatre acting.  He was the Associate Director of the film God Lives in the Himalayas.  His works as an actor include films like Hey Yuba (Nepal), Sick City (UK), Kaaran (Nepal), Target (Nepal).  He has also acted in plays like Virtual Reality, Chokhauni, Marriage in Motion, Naam Nabhayeko Manis, Bhimsen ko Mudda which were performed in Various festivals in Nepal and India.

Where is the Story?

Where is the Story? is an experimental film where student filmmakers go out in search of a story for a film. As they roam around, they find an interesting character in a dumping site, who tells them that he has a story to tell.  Following the character, they figure out that he has been a victim of several wars through his life. The footages captured by the filmmakers in search of a story are presented as a film as if it is edited on camera.

About the Director – Manoj Babu Panta
Manoj Babu Panta has a Bachelor degree in Film Direction and script-writing from College of Film Studies, Kathmandu.  He has written and directed several plays which includes Manche Pratiyogita (Human Contest), Salaam Bihani (Salute Morning), Puranko Harayeko Panna (The Lost Page from Puran), Prayogsalama Maanche (A man In a labrotary), Rangamanch bhittrako jeevan (The life inside the theatre), Jaha Sapanaharu Ropinchhan (Where Dreams are Planted), etc. He has also directed a celluloid short film “kaaran”.

Chaukaith (Threshold)

Chaukaith is about an encounter between two young women. A Madhesi housewife, Sarswati Gupta, has forgotten her real name and doesn’t count herself as a family member.

And a workingwoman, Trishna Thapa, is a divorced single mother.

As a census officer Trishna goes to the Tarai (low land). Sarswati’s household is the last one she needs to document at the end of the long day. This is where the film begins.

All Acting is improvised with no scripted dialogue.

Chaukaith portraits contemporary features of Nepalese Society and it also raises questions about barriers among different people and societies but in a more intimae and domestic context in which a woman searches for her identity a life outside her threshold.

About the Director – Deepak Rauniyar
Deepak Rauniyar, 31, is a senior writer/producer at BBC World Services Trust Nepal. In 1997 Deepak started his career as a print journalist , working from Biratnagar. In 2001, Deepak came to Kathmandu and started work with Himal Media.

Four years ago he started his film career as Chief assistant director/ Second Editor of Karma, Feature film by Tsering Rithar Sherpa.. After that he has edited 9 documentaries and early episodes of TV series Dalan (Dir. Nabin Subba). From last two years he has been engaged in writing and directing Katha Mitho Sarangiko (Sweet Tales of the Sarangi, produced by BBC World Service Trust Nepal).

Chaukaith is Deepak’s debut as a fiction director.
