Welcome to Seattle's 1st Independent South Asian Film Festival!
The first ISAFF honors the concept of "one".
As we come together for Pacific Northwest's first film festival to focus on South Asia, we affirm the "oneness" of the South Asian people. We transcend national borders and the imagined boundaries within South Asia and beyond.
As one community, we take pride in the many "firsts" of this premier ISAFF: the first gathering in the Northwest of independent South Asian women filmmakers from all over North America; the first public emergence of Trikone NW Seattle's queer South Asian community and its allies; the first ever independent Telugu film to screen in an international film forum.
ISAFF celebrates the oneness of South Asia through an uncensored, uncut series of screenings and forums embracing South Asia's multitude of traditions, cultures, histories, and people, around the world.
Since this is Seattle's first South Asian film festival, I will offer a few suggestions on how you can help to make it a success:
- Spread the word! Email everyone you know and post festival flyers at your schools, workplaces, and hang outs. (where to find festival flyers)- Buy advance tickets! Show your excitement and help with pre-festival costs. Avoid online charges by visiting Ticket Window outlets.
- Come to the Opening Gala! Mingle with filmmakers, watch trailers and short films, listen to classical South Asian music and dance to modern music. (Gala details)
- Participate in post-film discussions and forums! This is a unique opportunity to share thoughts about complex topics such as the 1947 Partition, the consequences of globalization on the disenfranchised, romance in South Asian American communities, and... filmmaking!
