Synopsis
Unbroken Glass is the story of filmmaker Dinesh Sabu’s journey to piece together the story of his parents’ lives, twenty years after their deaths. When he was six, Dinesh’s father died after a sudden diagnosis of stomach cancer. One month later, his mother committed suicide, the end of a fifteen-year struggle with schizophrenia. As time passed his older siblings seemed to have pieced their lives together, rarely talking about these shattering events. Reaching adulthood with little idea of who his parents were and disconnection to where his family came from, Dinesh sets out on a journey to uncover his parents’ story. Along the way he uncovers a silenced family history of mental illness as he confronts his own trauma of being orphaned and explores what it means to live in the shadow of mental illness and diaspora.
